What is visa revocation?
Visa revocation means your visa (in your passport) is no longer valid for re-entry into the U.S. Visa revocation could lead to termination of your SEVIS record (F and J visa holders) and therefore, termination of your immigration status.
If you receive a notice from the government that your visa is revoked, contact OISS right away for guidance.
Travel implications
- If your visa is revoked and you leave the U.S., you must apply for a new visa to return.
- Approval is not guaranteed and may require additional steps.
Seeking legal advice
Visa revocation can be complex and varies by individual case. OISS strongly recommends consulting an experienced immigration attorney for:
- Legal guidance on visa revocation and your immigration status
- Assistance with travel planning and re-entry requirements
Verifying visa validity
- Only the U.S. embassy or consulate that issued your visa can confirm its status.
- OISS and WashU do not receive notifications of revocations and cannot verify visa validity.
Important reminders
- Once a visa is revoked, you must obtain a new one before re-entering the U.S.
- Contact your OISS adviser for guidance.
